What a configuration could hand over
Parameters and variants in a webshop cover a colour or an add-on, not a dimension made to measure. The configurator can calculate the price itself and pass a line item with its specification to the order, which stock and production both see. Webhooks can report back when the order changes status.
Order
The configuration can create an order through the API with its own reference in external_order_number, while Upgates assigns a number from its own series.
Line item and parameters
The line item would carry the calculated unit price, with the dimensions and options as name and value parameters.
Internal note
The 3D preview link and instructions for production can go into the internal note, which the customer does not see.
Order webhooks
New orders and status changes can be picked up by a webhook instead of downloading the order list again and again.
What we need to connect it
You create the access in the admin under Add-ons / API, as a separate API user with rights to orders and products only.
Authentication is HTTP Basic, and after five failed attempts in an hour from one IP address the API blocks access.
Upgates matches products, shipping and payment by code, so we agree the codes the configurator will use.
The first orders would be sent with emails and SMS switched off, so customers do not receive test confirmations.
Worth deciding up front
- The number of requests depends on the plan; Bronze, for example, has 10 per hour plus 100 per day. Extra packages of 1000 requests can be bought.
- On a paid plan the API is charged according to the Upgates price list; during the trial it is free.
- A 200 response does not yet mean the order exists. The connection has to check the created_yn flag and the error messages in the response.
Questions about this connection
Is the Bronze plan enough for us?
For individual orders from the configurator it can be, since one order usually takes only a few calls. If you also want to sync price lists or stock, we work out the limit from your volume.
Will the customer get a confirmation from Upgates?
They can. Upgates emails and texts the customer according to the order status settings when the request allows it, so the confirmation would match an ordinary purchase.
